When is the best time to replace gutters?

The best time you can replace your gutters is during summer when it’s dry. Installing gutters can be a dangerous task that’s especially difficult when it’s raining or snowing. Furthermore, roofers like working at times when there will be minimum interruptions due to bad weather. If you decide to DIY, ensure you do a thorough installation since you don’t know how the gutters will perform till the spring rains or winter snow arrives.

What roof shingles are the best?

There are many different kinds of roof shingles: asphalt, cedar, tiles, metal, and slate. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses, hence what is ideal in another home may not necessarily work for you. But don’t fret, we will take you through the benefits of each type of roof and help you pick your best roofing material

What is the best roofing material for a flat roof?

The best choices for a flat roof include a built-up roofing (BUR), single-ply roofing (TPO and EPDM), modified bitumen and fiberglass roofing. Each of these has its own pros and cons, so you have to select the most suitable material depending on your location, local climate, height, financial ability and so on. Just speak to any of our experts for advice on what will best suit your situation

How long does an asphalt roof last?

The most basic option, a simple 3-tab asphalt shingle roof, will last an average of 20 years. An architectural/dimensional shingle roof is thicker and more durable thus able to easily last more than 25 years. Premium shingles are the best type of asphalt roof and generally last for more than 30 years.

How do you clean an asphalt roof?

Firstly, wear protective clothing and secure yourself using a full-body harness. Use a broom or leaf blower to remove the debris on your roof then spray it with a roof cleaner. The cleaner you use should be a specially formulated cleaning agent that’s noncorrosive and environmentally friendly. Wait for about 20 minutes for the cleaner to do its job, then rinse the shingles using water. Ensure you clean your roof on an overcast day that isn’t too windy to prevent the roof cleaner from drying up too quickly.

How do you stop a roof leak in the rain?

Immediately place a bucket below the leak to contain the incoming water and dry out the area using a towel or sponge. Next, go to your attic to look for the site of the leak. Once you find it, apply tar to the underside of the roof, then press a shingle or piece of plywood into the tar to cover the leak. Apply more tar around the edges of the patch to properly seal the leak. However, this is just a quick fix to prevent worse damage. Remember to contact us later for a more permanent solution.

Which type of roof is better?

Different types of roofs add their own unique design element and come with various advantages and drawbacks. For instance, asphalt shingles are cheap, versatile and easy to install, but asphalt roofing doesn’t last very long. On the other hand, while slate is the most durable roofing material, it’s very heavy and expensive. Our experts should help you figure out what roofing type will best suit you.

How do you keep moss from growing on your roof?

Moss grows best in the shade so cut back trees that shade your roof to prevent it from taking hold. You can also apply a moss preventive treatment on your roof to hinder growth. Since copper and zinc are toxic to moss, you could affix some strips of the metals to the ridge of your roof. As it rains, water will carry molecules of zinc or copper down the roof and kill any growing moss. Alternatively, consider buying moss-resistant shingles. These have metal granules embedded in their surface to prevent the growth of moss.

How to install a gutter system?

First, calculate the total length of gutters you’ll need for your house and buy them together with the appropriate number of downspouts and gutter brackets. Using a hacksaw or tin-snips, cut the gutters into their proper sizes. You should then mount the gutter brackets onto your house’s face board every 18-24 inches. Cut out openings irrelevant sections of the gutters for a downspout opening, then affix downspout connectors using metal screws and high-quality sealant. Don’t forget to attach end-caps to an open-ended run of the gutter. Place the gutters onto their brackets and attach the downspout to the connectors that were installed earlier. Lastly, use a sealant to seal any seams in the entire gutter system and let it dry overnight.

One simple fact: clean gutters are far less susceptible to deterioration than blocked gutters. In fact, the two most common gutter related topics facing building owners are blockages in the gutter itself, and blockages in the downpipes After every major storm, check to see whether your gutters are draining properly. If something isn’t right, call the experts

Which Shingle Color Should I Choose?

Choosing a shingle color is more than just choosing your favorite color. The best way to determine a color is basing it off the color of your brick. Pick a color that is in your brick and reflect that in the roof. If your brick is solid, then choose a shingle color (or colors) that compliments the color of your brick. Trim should also be considered when choosing a shingle color, however, keep in mind that trim color can be changed much easier than brick color.

Choosing the right shingle color for your home or office building also means installing the proper roof ventilation to help your roofing shingles last a long time. We can help you with your roofing ventilation problems when we install your new roof.
